The Company

Cressall Resistors design and manufacture high power electrical resistors used in electricity generation, transmission and distribution as well as in the industrial automation, marine, telecoms and rail transit markets.

Applications for our products include the neutral earthing of MV and HV systems, the dynamic braking of motors and industrial drives and the load testing of batteries and generators. We supply to large contractors, OEMs and end users throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Job  Overview

Lead the manufacturing function within budget and output targets to meet customer requirements and standards. Accountability for ensuring safety, customer quality, cost and delivery requirements are met. Responsible for developing an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible team by building working relationships ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. Manage the team on best practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading teams. Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.

There will also be a level of site facility management for the two factory units currently occupied which are leased from the Landlord. Whereby in the absence of a director on site there needs to be a senior person. This role would be the senior person for the site.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to the manufacturing plan throughout all stages of the manufacturing process
  • Ensure adequate resources are in place to achieve the operating plan including recruitment, training, development and motivation of team members
  • Implement strategic tasks to deliver bottom line improvements
  • Ensure 360-degree communications with operations personnel on all matters that affect the manufacturing plan
  • Use resource efficiently to deliver the manufacturing plan and to continually improve upon KPIs including:

  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning capacity, workflow, and equipment layout ensuring the latest quality systems & measures are met.
  • Provide manufacturing information to aid the decision-making by calculating resource, costs & reviewing production schedules in line with Operations Planning.
  • To work with Production and Quality staff to develop and establish systems to support continuous improvement, including Safety audits, FMEAs, 8D’s, control plans, process specifications, etc.
  • Liaise with the Chief Operations Officer and her team, along with appropriate Sales Managers and DBR order input control staff, in relation to the production planning, materials, staff training and anything that will affect the day to day running of the production lines.
  • To work with Team Leaders to ensure both skills matrices are managed to suit business needs
  • To identify, prioritise and plan the improvement of housekeeping.
  • Manage, develop and motivate direct reporting staff

  • Create works orders for internally manufactured parts and assemblies including contract work and stock
  • Identify, exploit and monitor opportunities for reduced costs and wastage throughout the planning function whilst maintaining and improving product quality and on time delivery.

ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER - INDUSTRIAL RESISTORS

Job  Overview

We seek a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to support the engineering team for our industrial resistor product range. In this pivotal role, you’ll contribute to the design of electrical equipment for industrial applications. Your responsibilities will include implementing electrical best practices, adhering to industry standards, and collaborating with the design team to create innovative solutions. The successful candidate should have hands-on design experience and a solid grasp of both electrical and mechanical engineering principles.

  • Work to deadlines and KPI targets set by the engineering manager
  • Interact with Sales, Production and Test departments to optimise designs and resolve fabrication and assembly issues in a timely manner

 
Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Significant electrical design experience.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with CE marking processes and DFMEA.
  • Experience in designing electrical equipment and/or machinery.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Autocad.
  • Competent skill level with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with design teams, office staff, and manufacturing operatives.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of mechanical engineering practices – materials, FEA, fixings, fabrication etc.
  • Experience of designing MV assemblies.
  • Experience of HV test techniques.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Review design requirements and produce design calculations and production documentation (resistor element and design overview sheets).
  • Produce design calculations and corresponding paperwork to manufacture designs.
  • Approval of drawings, Bills of Materials and other design information issued for manufacture.
  • Participate in research, development, and product testing as agreed with the Engineering Manager.
  • Select electrical components for use in control systems
  • Create 3D models (primarily sheet metal parts) and assemblies, issuing designs for manufacture through engineering drawings and supplementary documentation (Bills of Materials, etc.).
  • Carry out detailed mechanical design work including simulation and design verification testing, as required
  • Review and approve design information from other team members.

 

  • Adhere to quality systems (primarily ISO 9001), including using Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs) to document changes.
  • Conduct technical investigations, perform root cause analysis, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support to Production, Sales, Service, and Customer Support.
  • Deliver projects on schedule and within budget, managing a complex workload efficiently.
  • Apply relevant design, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Identify and apply new industry-wide processes within the company.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
