APPLICATIONS ENGINEER

The Company

Cressall Resistors design and manufacture high power electrical resistors used in electricity generation, transmission and distribution as well as in the industrial automation, marine, telecoms and rail transit markets.

Applications for our products include the power resistors for Power quality Filtering applications and neutral earthing for MV and HV network systems, the dynamic braking of motors and industrial drives (including rail traction) and the load testing of turbines, generators and battery system. We supply to large contractors, OEMs and end users throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

We are currently working towards expansion within our application engineering for sales into the above sectors with ever increasing demand for our products.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to: Projects Director
  • Assist the Projects Director to review and put together solutions for all markets detailed above.
  • This will include learning about all resistor element types and cooling methods (air natural and air forced cooling) to meet customer specifications. 
  • Help to design solutions for the more demanding markets of HV and Marine (including Navy) and support the pre sales activity to customers.
  • Developing long-term relationships with clients through managing and interpreting their requirements.
  • Ensure customer requirements are identified, understood and are communicated to all relevant departments at CRL.
  • Liaise with the internal sales department to support in the production of quotations.
  • Ensure estimates and quotations are prepared in accordance with customers’ requirements and ensure these are followed up to win business.
  • Negotiating tender and contract terms and conditions to meet both client and company needs
  • When and if required, prepare quotations for customers, while providing technical expertise to turn the quote into a sale
  • Monitor market and competitor products and activity, identify strengths, weaknesses and potential opportunities.
  • Liaise with Technical and R & D personnel to ensure the products and services offered are most suited to our customers requirements.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records of enquiries, quotations, orders and customer activity.
  • Monitor production costs ensuring that latest estimates are an accurate reflection of material costs and labour times.
  • Monitor and agree priorities with design and manufacturing to ensure customers’ requirements are satisfied.

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER FEA – POWER PROVE

The Company

Job Overview

This role will provide expertise to support the engineering team with the design of electrical equipment for a range of industrial and automotive applications. This will include the use of finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software (Ansys) and 3D modelling software. The role is pivotal to the business to develop innovative solutions to meet customer specifications and develop products for new market applications.

It is essential that this individual has an excellent grasp of mechanical engineering as well as a good knowledge of plastic material properties and the associated moulding processes. 

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to Project Manager Power Prove
  • Perform mechanical, fluid dynamics and thermal analysis to verify and enhance designs using both manual calculation and multi-physics simulation finite element analysis software (Ansys). 
  • The individual will be tasked with increasing the utilisation of Ansys within the design process.
  • Research and development including product testing work as agreed with the Engineering Manager.
  • Be the lead engineer in the development of our Power Prove product, working closely with the R&D department to specify, plan and oversee product testing.
  • Contribute, as part of a wider team, in the collating and submission of PPAP documentation and support the quality department in the APQP application.
  • Produce 3D models and assemblies. Issue designs for manufacture by producing engineering drawings and supplementary documentation (Bills of Materials etc.).
  • Produce engineering drawings and supporting documentation (Bills of materials etc.).
  • Provide technical support to Production, Sales, Service and Customer Support.
  • Adhere to the quality system for example using ECOs (Engineering Change Order) to document changes.
  • Conduct technical investigations, develop and maintain appropriate design and support processes, carrying out root cause analysis and initiating corrective action as necessary.
  • To understand and apply relevant design, regulatory and industry standards.
  • To recognise new industry wide processes being developed and the opportunity to apply those within the Company.
  • Train other colleagues in FEA
  • Perform any additional duties as required

Location
Place of work will be Evington Valley Road, Leicester. Occasional site and customer visits may be required.

ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

About The Role

We are looking for an electrical design engineer who can provide expertise to support the engineering team with the design of electrical equipment for a range of industrial applications. This will include electrical best practice and implementation of industry standards. This is a pivotal role to the business as the design team continue to develop innovative solutions to meet customer specifications and develop products for new market applications.

The specific nature of the product make it essential that you have an excellent grasp of mechanical and electrical engineering principles. The successful candidate will be expected to have had several years hands-on design experience.

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Review design requirements & assist engineering team with technical aspects of designs including specification of materials.
  • Produce design calculations and corresponding paperwork to manufacture designs (resistor element and design overview sheets).
  • Produce and Approve drawings, Bills of Materials and other design information issued for equipment manufacture.
  • Conduct technical investigations, develop and maintain appropriate design and support processes, carrying out root cause analysis and initiating corrective action as necessary.
  • Provide technical support to Production, Sales, Service and Customer Support.
  • Deliver projects on schedule and on budget, demonstrating the ability to handle the pressure of managing a complex range of projects, a high volume of work, within a fast pace of implementation.
  • Understand and apply relevant design, regulatory and industry standards.

About You

  • Experience with electrical design work preferably with medium and high voltage design experience.
  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of, and experience of designing in accordance with IEC 60204 and IEC 61439.
  • Experience of the product CE marking process and DFMEA.
  • A high level of competency with Autodesk, in particular AutoCAD Electrical is highly desirable.
  • A CAD software package such as Autodesk Inventor, Creo, Siemens would be an advantage.
  • Good communication and the ability to integrate not only with the design team, but other office staff and the manufacturing operatives.

INTERNAL SALES ENGINEER

Job Overview:

The Internal Sales Engineer is the initial technical resource for the company and is responsible for actively driving and managing the “application evaluation” stage of the sales process. The role operates as a bridge between Customers and Contracts/Engineering teams, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of resistor products.

A key member of the Sales team you will build close relationships with our customers in dealing with technical sales enquiries, producing accurate and competitive quotes and being able to source solutions to meet their needs.

Responsibilities:

Processing customer enquiries, which will involve:

  • Initial customer contact via telephone, email and face to face
  • Managing and understanding and interpreting customer requirements
  • Producing designs and costed solutions to satisfy these requirements, whilst maximising the benefit for the company
  • Production of quotations/tenders in a timely, clear, detailed and accurate manner.
  • Follow up quotations in a timely manner to secure profitable orders
  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and applications.
  • Provide pre-sales technical expertise and product education to new and existing customers
